Introduction to Climatics Testing

The course will provide you with a basic understanding of climatic testing. While climatic testing covers broad aspects within the industry, this course will provide an introduction to the physics of environments; a brief history of climatic test requirements; techniques to derive climatic requirements based on field data vs analysis; tailoring strategies for climatic tests of large systems and small components; an understanding of failure modes due to applied environments; an introduction to climatic test facilities and how to create environments; and practical applications of test methods.  This course is designed to be a stepping stone leading to the more focused Climatics Testing Learning Path and MIL-STD-810H training course.

David Gibbons (View LinkedIn profile)

David Gibbons was a long time employee of Hewlett-Packard/Agilent Technologies/Keysight Technologies, and has been working in the company’s Env Test labs in Sonoma County, California since 1994. He has specialized in Climatic Testing, but his responsibilities  include supporting every aspect of the lab’s activities, including dynamic testing, powerline testing, EMC testing, and pretty much everything else the lab’s engineers and standards required. He has shared his practical knowledge and experience with others inside and outside his companies through personal communication, years of practical articles in the pages of Test Engineering and Management magazine, and through teaching in-house classes and tutorials, and teaching at the IEST Annual Technical Meetings. As a senior member of the IEST, it is important to him that new practitioners understand the basic principles of the equipment they are using, and the processes they are following to ensure safe and successful testing.
