In nature, there is never a single environment, but temperature, humidity, air pressure, and some level of vibration are always present.  Understanding how environments combine, then knowing how to apply them in a lab, can give you a much better idea of how your test item will react in real world conditions.

Course outline

I. Introduction to climate and how to measure it (more than just weather reports)

II. Understanding how climate is changing (brief overview based on measured trends)

III. Commonly combined environments (each with sensor information)

     A.  Temperature

     B.  Humidity

     C.  Altitude/Pressure

     D.  Shock and vibration

     E.  Additional climates (solar, rain, icing, freeze/thaw, wind)

IV.  Challenges to test analysis

V. Class exercise - designing a series of combined environment tests to simulate a mission profile

Who should attend?

You need to have a basic understanding of combining environments because you:
  • Wish to move from single environment to combined environment testing or have questions on its value
  • Want a better understanding of how climate correlates to testing
  • Would like information on testing with enough margin to cover expected climate changes in the next few decades
