Reliable testing begins with trained personnel at all levels.

Many companies claim to provide expert training, but IEST's accredited expertise as an international standards developer assures confidence in the effectiveness of the IEST Learning Path Certificate Program for you and your personnel. IEST education programs are peer-reviewed, taught by recognized experts, and embody our nonprofit mission of knowledge sharing.

The IEST Tier Two Certificate provides additional focus on core environmental testing areas.

Intermediate Shock Testing and SRS

A brief overview will examine types of shocks, including classical waveform, transient, pyrotechnic, SRS, and seismic. The problems of measuring and analyzing shocks will be explored, and some helpful tips will be offered. The course will expand into specific shock applications, including MIL-S-901 Underwater Explosion, ballistic impact, and repetitive events.

Spectral Analysis

This course is designed to provide a comprehensive introduction to the basic processing of stationary and non-stationary random measurement data for purposes of Laboratory Vibration Test Specification (LVTS) development. The first half discusses the fundamentals of spectrum analysis and illustrate Fourier based non-parametric spectrum estimation. This includes consideration of random data with embedded sine-tones. The last half considers a general framework and illustration of the development of a LVTS. The objective of the course is to provide procedures for processing field measured random vibration data and using the processed information for LVTS development. The LVTS then may be used to qualify materiel for in-service use.

Instructor: Ron Merritt

Ronald G. Merritt has a Ph.D. in Engineering Mechanics. From May 1977 to September 2010 he was employed as a Mechanical Engineer in the Life Cycle Environmental Engineering area at the Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWD), China Lake, CA. From September 2010 to December 2014 Merritt was a contractor with Jacobs Technology with work related in the same area of NAWCWD. Since January 2015, Merritt has worked as a contractor with ATAC. He is a Fellow of the IEST and Associate Fellow of NAWCWD. His interests reflected in several published papers include statistical characterization and processing of measured vibration and shock environments for laboratory test specification development.
