IEST Values Inclusion and Diversity
IEST is deeply saddened by the global pandemic of systemic racism, discrimination, and inequality that impacts our communities and individuals in our society who still confront discrimination and racial injustice in their daily lives. IEST stands with everyone challenging all forms of prejudice, oppression, and injustice. During this critical global movement, we want to reiterate the value we, as an organization, place on inclusion and diversity.
Our global technical society values the diversity of voices and backgrounds in our community. We remain committed to fostering an equitable and inclusive community. We stand firmly behind our Code of Conduct, which outlines our commitment to providing equitable access to opportunities in membership, volunteer engagement, participation in activities, and employment – and pledges that our community will “never engage in discrimination, harassment, bullying, inappropriate language, or humiliation of any kind in regard to another’s age, gender, race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, knowledge or skill level, or any other factor.”
As an organization, we understand that diversity, equity, and inclusion are essential to the quality of what scientists and technical professionals produce. It is the diverse experiences and perspectives of our association’s members that make IEST a strong community and resource for our fields. Whether in the research lab, classroom, cleanroom, or boardroom, we stand with those who promote inclusivity and diversity to strengthen the field of science and society as a whole.
