IEST is the Secretariat for Technical Committee 209 of the International Standards Organization (ISO/TC 209), charged with writing an international standard for cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. IEST is also an ANSI-accredited developer of American National Standards. The Institute has also revised such Federal Standards as FED-STD-209, MIL-STD-781, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-1246, and has published significant technical papers and findings in its
Journal of the IEST for 50 years. IEST is a founding member of the ANSI-accredited US TAG to
ISO/TC 229 Nanotechnologies. Through its Working Groups, IEST formulates and publishes Recommended Practices.
IEST sponsors and participates in regular technical conferences, including ESTECH, the IEST annual technical meeting and exposition;
Aerospace Testing Seminar; Space Simulation Conference; International Symposium on Product Quality and Integrity (RAMS); and
International Confederation of Contamination Control Societies (ICCCS). Its membership is drawn from professionals in the environmental sciences from around the world.
IEST members enjoy educational and networking opportunities available not only at
ESTECH, the IEST annual technical meeting, but at the
Fall Conference and Chapter seminars and classes held throughout the year. Through articles and papers published in the
Journal of the IEST, they are kept informed about current technology; and through elected and appointed offices, are given the opportunity to develop leadership skills and provide a valuable service to their fellow professionals.
IEST local chapters offer benefits to member, chapter, and the sciences, by affording members the opportunity to attend and participate in technical meetings and facility tours, and to exchange technical information on a regular basis.
IEST and its members are leaders in the international community of environmental sciences. Members work in private industry, in government and military agencies, and in colleges and universities. Their collective knowledge and experience have enabled IEST to contribute important changes to technical and business practices throughout the environmental sciences.
If your work and interests are in the environmental and technological sciences, IEST offers you a chance to change your professional world for the better.
