This Recommended Practice (RP), IEST-RP-CC018.6, provides guidance for maintaining a cleanroom at the level for which it was designed. This document is intended as a guide for establishing appropriate housekeeping procedures essential for the overall contamination control program of the cleanroom. In addition, test procedures are provided for use in establishing the frequency of housekeeping and monitoring the effectiveness of the housekeeping.
The test methods also are designed to help determine appropriate levels of surface cleanliness for specific cleanrooms.
UPDATES IN THE 2026 EDITION:
1. Background information on residue, coverage, and frequencies was added or expanded. The cleanroom industry has long requested information on bucket change rates.
2. The procedural portion of the document was greatly expanded. Specific information was added regarding cleaning and sanitization:
a) Vertical and Horizonal hoods and biological safety cabinets
b) Air showers
c) Ladders
d) Drains
e) Cold boxes
f) Eye wash stations and safety showers
g) Shoe cleaners
3. A section on decontamination (5.6) was added to address planned or unplanned disruptions. This section includes an Example of Recovery Plans.
The members of this recommended practice committee represent all areas of industry: semi-conductor, aerospace, independent testing labs, pharmaceutical, biologics, medical devices, re-search, and suppliers.
