Nanotechnology Facility Design

ES10-CNFD (.6 CEUs)
Instructor: John Weaver
Sponsor this tutorial

This tutorial will discuss the considerations and present proposed solutions to the issues inherent in the design of nanotechnology facilities. In addition to overall facility design issues, the course will explain the implementation of cleanrooms and specialized laboratories that minimize outside influences and contain potential contaminants. Attendees will learn about the design process from concept through needs analysis, critical design decisions, and preparation for construction. Specific examples and lessons learned will be incorporated into all phases of the tutorial.
Who should enroll: This tutorial is a must for anyone involved in the concept, design, or operation of a nanotechnology facility. It is appropriate for designers and consultants as well as owners and facility future-occupants.

Workshop on Cleaning and Sanitizing Cleanrooms and Controlled Environments

ES10-CCCC (.6 CEUs)
Instructor: Anne Marie Dixon
Sponsor this tutorial

This tutorial will focus on specific techniques for cleaning ceilings, walls, windows, doors, floors, tables, and equipment. The course will describe and demonstrate methods for vertical and horizontal facilities in all ISO Classes and all industries. A brief presentation will be followed by hands-on activities. This course will include a copy of IEST-RP-CC018: Cleanroom Housekeeping: Operating and Monitoring Procedures.
Who should enroll: Cleanroom managers, operational and quality assurance personnel.

Cleanrooms and HVAC Systems Design Fundamentals, Modeling, and Simulation

ES10-CCRD (.3 CEUs)
Instructor: Wei Sun

Sponsor this tutorial

This tutorial will be presented in two sections. Session One will discuss the fundamentals of cleanrooms and HVAC systems design, including the definition and classifications of cleanrooms, cleanroom standards, particulate sources, airborne particulates, airborne molecular contamination, and microbial contamination. Detailed discussions will cover airflow quantity, velocity, flow patterns and floor arrangement, air shower, airlock and basic pressurization, HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and process systems. Common cleanroom devices and equipment, architectural construction materials, cleaning procedures, testing standards, construction cost, and other aspects will be highlighted. Session Two will present new design tools, approaches, and research findings in such areas as airflow modeling and demand flow control to conserve fan energy; primary, secondary and tertiary air handling systems design strategies; automated pressurization systems design; airlock performance; and CFD simulations.
Who should enroll: Cleanroom design engineers from architectural and engineering firms, cleanroom design/build contractors, cleanroom research professionals, and cleanroom product sales engineers.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 2010

A certificate in the ISO Series will be given for attendance in all three CC tutorials marked with an asterisk (*). Find out what you need to know about the latest revisions in the new Draft International Standard (DIS) versions of ISO 14644-1 and ISO 14644-2 Cleanroom Standards. These documents are due to be released in the first half of 2010.

8:00 – 11:45 a.m.

* Understanding the ISO Series

ES10-CI02 (.3 CEUs)
Instructor: Robert Mielke
Sponsored by Flanders Corporation

This course provides an overview of the ISO 14644 series of documents with an in-depth discussion on ISO 14644 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments—Part 2: Specifications for testing and monitoring to prove continued compliance with ISO 14644-1. ISO 14644-2 specifies which tests are required to characterize the performance of cleanrooms and clean zones. This course includes a copy of ISO 14644-2.
Who should enroll: IEST recommends those who specify, operate, or test cleanrooms should enroll. This course can also be beneficial to designers, installers, and maintenance personnel involved in cleanrooms.

1:30 – 5:15 p.m.

* Testing to Determine the Classification of Air Cleanliness

ES10-CI01 (.3 CEUs)
Instructor: Robert Mielke

Sponsored by Flanders Corporation

This course covers the requirements of ISO 14644 Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments—Part 1: Classification of air cleanliness. The course will also cover the proposed changes to the document that are out for review as a Draft International Standard. This course is structured to have an open interchange during the discussion. ISO 14644-1 addresses the requirements for characterizing the particle count performance of air in cleanrooms and clean zones. This course includes a copy of ISO 14644-1.
Who should enroll: IEST recommends those who specify, operate, or test cleanrooms should enroll. This course can also be beneficial to designers, installers, and maintenance personnel involved in cleanrooms.

THURSDAY, MAY 6, 2010

8:00 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.

* The Practical Application of ISO 14644-3

ES10-CI03 (.6 CEUs)
Instructors: Daniel Dennison and Robert Mielke
Sponsored by Flanders Corporation

This course will explore the practical application of the ISO 14644 series that a certification contractor would use to certify a clean space. The course will include an open forum discussing how to implement the standards, what may or may not work in different types of cleanroom environments, primary equipment used, and a group cleanroom evaluation workshop. Attendees will need a calculator for the class. This course includes a copy of ISO 14644-3.
Who should enroll: This course is structured to assist those who are responsible for outside cleanroom performance testing contractors, supervisors of cleanroom testing, those performing cleanroom evaluations, and anyone interested in what a cleanroom performance testing group would do.
