Prospective applicants - Please read the Application Procedures and all forms for the individual scholarship before beginning the application process. The Application Form and Application Procedures are available in Microsoft Word or Adobe PDF formats. Applications and papers must be sent in one packet by mail or express mail services; applications submitted via e-mail or fax will NOT be considered. IEST will start accepting applications August 1, 2009 and they must be postmarked by January 15, 2010 in order to be considered for our 2010 Scholarships.

Background: Eugene (Gene) Borson was a Fellow of IEST, and was a leader in the field of aerospace environmental and contamination engineering until his death in 2005. He had a long and distinguished career and was a source of inspiration through his dedication and technical expertise. The Eugene Borson Memorial Scholarship was established by IEST in grateful appreciation of his service.
Description: The Eugene Borson Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $500, is awarded annually by IEST based on the following criteria:
1. Eligibility: Undergraduate college or university student enrolled full-time in an accredited institution at the time of the application and at the time of awarding of the scholarship funds
2. Grades: Minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in most recent semester/quarter and cumulative GPA
3. Recommendation from a science, mathematics, or engineering faculty member
4. Major in science or engineering (if declared)
5. One-page essay: Describe your career goals and how IEST can help you reach those goals.
6. Verified relevant experience (proof must be submitted with application for Science Fair participation/honors, student paper competitions, patents, math/science competitions, group engineering projects, etc.)

PARK ESPENSCHADE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Background: Park Espenschade was a member of IEST. At his death in 1976, the Park Espenschade Education Fund was established to honor Park Espenschade’s enthusiasm, energy, devotion, and commitment to the education and training of young people in the environmental sciences.
Description: The Park Espenschade Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $500, is awarded annually by IEST based on the following criteria:
1. Eligibility: Undergraduate college or university student enrolled full-time in an accredited institution at the time of the application and at the time of awarding of the scholarship funds
2. Grades: Minimum of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in most recent semester/quarter and cumulative GPA
3. Recommendation from a science, mathematics, or engineering faculty member
4. Major in science or engineering (if declared)

ROBERT N. HANCOCK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Background: Robert N. Hancock was a Fellow and Past President of IEST, a long-time member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the IEST, and a leader in the field of environmental engineering until his death in 2006. One of the early proponents of environmental stress screening and combined environmental testing, he had a long and distinguished career and was a source of inspiration through his dedication and technical expertise. The Robert N. Hancock Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 by IEST to honor Robert Hancock’s energy, devotion to IEST and the field in which he worked, and his commitment to the education and training of young people in the environmental sciences.
Description: The Robert N. Hancock Memorial Scholarship, in the amount of $500, is awarded annually by IEST for the best original technical paper written by one student and published in the Journal of the IEST. Topics for papers must be in the fields of science or engineering. Papers should be limited to 10 pages, including text double-spaced in 10-point type, figures, and tables. The Journal Editorial Board will determine the recipient of the award.
