Senior Faculty

Anne Marie Dixon
Anne Marie Dixon is owner and president of Cleanroom Management Associates, Inc., a Carson City, Nevada-based consulting firm that specializes in competitive benchmarking, training, and auditing of clean and aseptic operations and management. Dixon has been actively engaged in the field of contamination control for more than 30 years. She is an IEST Fellow and President Emeritus and chairs the United States Technical Advisory Group (US TAG) to ISO Technical Committee (TC) 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. She also chairs IEST Working Groups CC018, CC026, CC049 and new Cleanroom Robotics. Dixon holds a BS in finance from the University of Illinois, a BS in engineering from the University of Nevada, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

 

Gordon Ely
Gordon M. Ely is the IEST Technical Vice President (Contamination Control) and the Manager of Regulatory Affairs for MiMedx Group, Inc. He is the Chair of IEST Working Groups CC020 and CC025 and participates in various working groups within ISO Technical Committees (TC) 198 and 209. Ely has worked in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and biologics industries for more than 25 years. He is a certified Specialist Microbiologist (SM) in Consumer and Industrial Microbiology and a Registered Microbiologist. He received his BS degree in microbiology with a chemistry minor from Brigham Young University.

 

 

Jan Eudy
Jan E. Eudy is a cleanroom/contamination control consultant with over 25 years of industry experience. Jan is a technical resource for cleanroom, food and healthcare reusable garments and consumable products. From 1994 – 2014, Jan implemented and maintained the ISO 9001 based quality management system and ISO registration at all Cintas cleanroom locations and supported validation and sterile services. From 2006 – 2013, Jan implemented and maintained the HACCP risk management program at Cintas industrial laundries. She is a Fellow and President Emeritus of the Institute for Environmental Science and Technology. She is an active member of other professional organizations including the International Dairy Foods Association, Food Processors of Canada, International Association for Food Protection, American Society of Clinical Pathologists, National Registry of Certified Microbiologists, American Society for Microbiology, American Society for Quality, International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineers and Parenteral Drug Association. Jan graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Wisconsin with graduate studies in Medical Microbiology at Creighton University. Jan’s additional qualifications include Registered Medical Technologist and Specialist in Microbiology with ASCP, Registered Microbiologist with NRCM in Consumer Product Testing and Quality Assurance, ISO 9000 Provisional Auditor with RAB(QSA), Certified Quality Auditor with ASQ, Certified HACCP Trainer by the International HACCP Alliance and is ServSafe certified.

Lawrence Levit
Lawrence B. Levit is the general manager of LBL Scientific, a consulting firm specializing in ESD control and instrumentation of physics experiments. A NARTE-certified ESD engineer, Levit has produced successful ESD control programs on three continents and holds six patents in the area of ESD control. Previously, he was the chief scientist for MKS Ion Systems, where he was responsible for planning technology implementation for the company's products in cleanrooms. Levit is a Senior Member of IEST and the ESD Association. He earned a BS in physics from Case Institute of Technology and a PhD in experimental high-energy physics from Case Western Reserve University.

 

Robert Mielke
Robert Mielke is the Committee Member for ISO Technical Committee (TC) 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments, and a member of ISO TC 209 Working Group 1, which wrote ISO 14644-1 and ISO 14644-2. He was Chair of the IEST Contamination Control Standards and Practices Committee for eight years and served two terms as Technical Vice President of the Contamination Control Division. Mielke, a Fellow of IEST and Chair of Working Group CC006, is a principal metrology engineer at Abbott Laboratories.

 

Christopher Muller
Christopher Muller is the technical director for Purafil, Inc. He has written and spoken extensively on the subject of AMC control and monitoring; as such, IEST has honored him with its Willis J. Whitfield Award (2010) for substantial contributions to the field of contamination control through published papers, studies and reports, and its Maurice Simpson Technical Editors Award (2008) for best contamination control-related paper published in the Journal of the IEST. Muller is a Senior Member of IEST. He chairs ASHRAE Standard Project Committee 145P, which is developing industry standards for assessing the performance of media and equipment used in gas-phase air filtration systems. Muller serves on the Yield Enhancement Technical Working Group and Wafer Environment Contamination Control subgroup for the update of the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors (ITRS).

Michael Rataj
Michael Rataj has been involved in the contamination control industry since the mid-1990s, when he took over as QA Manager for ARAMARK's Chicago cleanroom plant. He has been the head of the Quality Assurance Unit for ARAMARK since 1999 and has also worked in various manufacturing and R&D roles in the pharmaceutical industry at Abbott Laboratories and Amoco Technology. Rataj holds an MS in biology from the University of Illinois and an MBA in operations management from the Illinois Institute of Technology Stuart School of Business. He was President of IEST in 2009-2010 and is Chair of Working Groups CC003 and CC023.



R. Vijayakumar
Since the mid-1980s, R. Vijayakumar has managed and successfully led departments and divisions of companies in various technical and business aspects of the contamination control industry. He is now president of AERFIL, Liverpool, New York. A Senior Member of IEST, Vijayakumar currently serves as the society's President and as Chair of CC Working Groups 001, 002, and 034. He holds an MS and a PhD, both in mechanical engineering, from the University of Minnesota.


Associate Faculty

Victor K.F. Chia, Ph.D.
Victor Chia is an Air Liquide Electronics U.S. Senior Specialist. He is a Director at Balazs NanoAnalysis with responsibilities for advancing surface contamination technologies, global sales and marketing, and international business development. He received his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of California, Santa Barbara and was a post-doctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. Victor has hands-on experience with AAS, Raman Spectroscopy and SIMS. He is the Past chair and co-author of the IEST WG-CC031 for organic outgassing and is active with AVS (American Vacuum Society) at the National and Chapter level committees, as well as on the standard committee of the ITRS for wafer surface metals and backside particles. Victor has held positions at KLA-Tencor (Contamination Specialist), at Chemtrace (Vice President) and at Charles Evans and Associates (11 years, holding positions from SIMS analyst to Director). Dr. Chia has published over 45 papers and authored several chapters on SIMS and contamination characterization.  Victor is an experienced instructor and has presented several UC Berkeley Extension Courses.

Daniel Dennison
Daniel J. Dennison has been involved in testing for the life sciences industry since the early 1980s. He has participated in various aspects of testing in this industry, is currently certified as a National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB) Cleanroom Performance Testing Supervisor, and was accredited by NSF International as a BioSafety Cabinet Field Certifier from 1996 to 2001. Dennison is director of cleanroom testing (North America) for NNE Pharmaplan. He is a member of the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers, NEBB, and an active member of several IEST Working Groups.


Jason Dollarhide
Jason Dollarhide is the Director of Business Development for Hodess Cleanroom Construction and the President of Cleanroom Constructors Inc. Jason has 20 years’ experience in the design and construction of cleanrooms for various industries around the United States. Experience includes cleanroom projects for Pharmaceutical, Bio-Pharma, USP, Medical Device, Electronic, Semi-Conductor, Automotive, and Lithium Battery Plants. He also has expertise in the development and specification of modular cleanroom projects to support specific industries and manufacturing needs.


David Ensor
David Ensor is a senior program director at the Research Triangle Institute (RTI), with responsibilities for the Aerosol Technology Program. He was named an RTI Distinguished Fellow in 2010 and a Senior Fellow in 2002. He founded the American Association for Aerosol Research and the research journal Aerosol Science and Technology. Ensor consistently contributes to scientific literature and has written 80 peer-reviewed papers and 15 book chapters. He has given more than 200 presentations to major conferences and holds eight US patents. Ensor’s professional honors include the 2009 James Mildon Award for Nanotechnology Standardization from IEST, the Hammer Award from the White House, and the Meritorious Service Award from the American National Standards Institute. He is a Fellow of IEST, the American Association for Aerosol Research, and the American Society for Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Ensor is the Convenor of ISO/TC 209 Working Group (WG) 7, with responsibility for ISO 14644-7, Separative devices (clean air hoods, gloveboxes, isolators, and minienvironments), and a member of the US Technical Advisory Group (TAG )for ISO/TC 209, Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments. He is also a member of the US TAG for ISO/TC 229, Nanotechnologies, and a member of the US Delegation. Ensor holds a PhD in engineering and an MS in chemical engineering from the University of Washington and a BS in chemical engineering from Washington State University.


Joe Gecsey, instructor, IESTJoe Gecsey
Joe Gecsey has been working with particle counters since 1984, covering both airborne and liquidborne designs and applications. Since 2009, he has been one of the two subject matter experts from the US on the WG1 revision committee for ISO 14644-1, -2 standards regarding the airborne particle levels in cleanrooms and clean zones. Gecsey conducts seminars on particle counting and related regulations around the globe, participating in conferences in China, Japan, South America, and Europe, as well as North America. He has substantial experience in addressing the sampling needs of electronics, aerospace, and life science industries and, as an instructor, provides practical advice and case studies.

Julie Jennings
Julie Jennings has twenty years of experience as Environmental Engineer for Lockheed Martin. She is currently the Qualification Test Manager for the Targets and Countermeasures Program in Huntsville, Alabama, working with the Missile Defense Agency. Julie ensures that each component meets the environmental requirements defined by the customer and the mission. The qualification test programs are based on the requirements in SMC-S-016, MIL-STD-810, and MIL-STD-461. Prior to her current assignment, Julie was based out of Grand Prairie, Texas, with Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control as an Environmental Engineer for many Army Programs. She has executed countless dynamic, climatic, road and vehicle tests. Julie Jennings is the author of “Use of Composite Vibration Spectra in MIL-STD-331C Fuze Qualification Programs” which was presented to the NDIA 51st Annual Fuze Conference to dramatically reduce the overall laboratory test time while still being fully compliant to the requirements in MIL-STD-331. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Barbara Kanegsberg
Barbara Kanegsberg, President of BFK Solutions, LLC, is a recognized expert in critical/industrial cleaning and contamination control. Her education and professional background includes biology, clinical chemistry, and aerospace. As an independent consultant, she develops critical cleaning processes, conducts validations, and resolves product-related regulatory issues. She works with manufacturers of high-value product, including medical device manufacturers and their suppliers, in such areas as engineered coatings, metals, additive manufacturing, electronics assembly, and optics. She conducts dynamic, interactive workshops and training programs, and publishes extensively. Barbara is a co-editor of and contributor to the two-volume "Handbook For Critical Cleaning,” second edition, CRC Press, 2011. Barbara is an appointed United States Expert to the ISO group that developed the recently issued ISO-14644-13: “Cleaning of surfaces to achieve defined levels of cleanliness in terms of particle and chemical classifications.” She has a master degree in biological chemistry.

George Lei
George Lei is president of Fluid Dynamics Solutions, Inc., a Portland, Oregon-based consulting company supporting clients in analyzing airflow fields and resolving HVAC/Cleanroom design problems. Prior to his current position, Dr. Lei served as the director of research and development at PACE Cleanpak International. In his earlier engineering career, Dr. Lei worked as building energy efficiency engineer and HVAC design engineer. He also taught as a part-time faculty at the University of California at Davis and Oregon State University. Dr. Lei received his PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of California at Davis in 1993, his MS in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University, and his BS in mechanical engineering from Taiwan. He has more than 25 years experience in HVAC/cleanroom design and trouble-shooting. He is an active member of IEST, ASHRAE, ASME, IEST, and SEMI, and has published many technical papers in various international journals, conferences, and magazines.


Rick Meyer
Mr. Meyer has over 35 years of construction, design, installation, consulting, repair, certification, and maintenance of laboratories, clean rooms, and filtration systems. He has currently been employed with Superior Laboratory Services, Inc. for the last 16 years. He has designed, built, consulted, and certified over 100 USP-797 facilities since 2004, and has tested/certified over 2000 clean rooms, designed/built over 900 clean rooms, and certified over 75,000 hoods to date. He is on IEST Working Groups related to HEPA leak testing, nano facility design, nano- safety, and USP-797 facility design. He is currently a member of the USA, ISO-14644 TAG team that performs reviews and comment on those standards prior to them becoming world wide standards.

Morgan Polen
Morgan Polen is the principal consultant for Microrite. Morgan brings 30 years’ experience working in cleanrooms and is a subject matter expert in particle monitoring. He has been involved with various cleanroom projects working in over 40 countries. With hands on experience in projects ranging from cleanroom design, construction, validation, monitoring program development, particle counter design, and product management for cleanroom related products and systems. Addressing monitoring and control solutions in a wide variety of clean industries such as pharmaceutical, medical device, semiconductor, data storage, aerospace, defense, automotive, optical, and food and beverage manufacturing. He has lectured on particle monitoring and contamination control in North America, South America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Jason Roth
Jason Roth, Principle Technology Director for Sterile Environment Technologies, Inc. (SET3), specializes in critical environment decontamination, training, consulting and auditing of cleanroom aseptic operations and management. Jason holds technology patents and is actively engaged in the contamination control field for more than 20 years. He has extensive experience in the areas of cleanroom operations, training, technical writing, strategic consulting and process optimization. He is a member of the Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technologies (IEST), National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), and the University of Central Florida’s Industrial Affiliates Program for cleanroom alliance. Jason has been published many times in areas relating to critical environment technologies and has also served as Chairman for the cleanroom testing, cleaning, standards and risk analysis sessions from 2013 - 2016. Jason is certified in ISO 14644 standards, conductive floor care, static testing, sterile process, and commercial air balancing (NBI).


Jack Sanders
Jack T. Sanders is the Senior Contamination Control Engineer at ATK Space Systems. His current assignments include consulting for Southwest Research Institute as the Instrument Systems Contamination Control Engineer.  Sanders was a Contamination Engineer on the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) for the second servicing mission of the Hubble Space Telescope program and was the Senior Contamination Engineer on the SHARPP instrument. He has been active in the IEST and has been on a number of committees and working groups, including WG CC901 that wrote IEST-STD-CC1246D and WG CC902 that revised MIL-HDBK-407. Sanders is also the chairman of ASTM committee E21 on Space Simulation and Applications of Space Technology and recently received the Award of Merit and an honorary fellowship in ASTM for his work in space simulation on contamination control.

Hasim Solmaz
Hasim Solmaz is General Manager of Lighthouse Worldwide Solutions EMEA Operations. Hasim’s focus is on cleanroom design and management concepts, environmental monitoring systems, pharmaceutical manifacturing and regulatory concerns. Hasim is a founding chair of Cleanroom Technologies Society of Turkey, head of delegates in ISO TC209 “Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments” and expert in ISO TC209 “Cleanrooms and associated controlled environments” Working Group 3 “Cleanroom Test Methods”. Recently appointed as honorary chair of ICCCS, The International Confederation of Contamination Control Societies which is an international community for national society on cleanrooms and contamination control.

Hasim is an active member of International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), Institute of Environmental Sciences and Technology (IEST) and Parenteral Drug Association (PDA). He holds a Bachelor of Science degree with high honors in Atmospheric Science and Meteorological Engineering from Istanbul Technical University.



Wei Sun
Currently the Technical Vice President (Contamination Control) of IEST, Wei Sun is the chair of WG-CC012 that is responsible for the new edition of RP-CC012.3 (Considerations in Cleanroom Design). Sun also has served as the Chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee TC9.11 (Clean Spaces) from 2007 to 2010, a voting member of ASHRAE TC9.10 (Laboratory Systems) and TC9.6 (Healthcare Facilities). He served as the Chair of ASHRAE Technology Transfer Committee in 2010-2013, an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer since 2008. In addition to his design expertise for large cleanroom, lab, and healthcare projects; he has been serving as a Principal Investigator for many governmental research projects, over a dozen of technical articles have been published. He has been invited to provide numerous technical speeches and training courses for private US industries, governmental, national, and international conferences.

Troy Tillman
Troy Tillman , TSI Inc. Sr. Global Marketing Manager – Contamination Control, has spent over 20 years defining and developing products for markets such as pharmaceutical cleanrooms, laboratories, hospitals and vivariums. He has held various product management, marketing, sales and business development positions at TSI. Mr. Tillman holds a BSME from the University of Minnesota with an emphasis in control, and an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.

 

John Weaver
John Weaver has been involved in cleanrooms and clean facilities for over 42 years, from the latest research and development facilities to high-volume production facilities. His involvement has included early-stage planning, facility design, clean-construction protocols and supervision, facility startup, and management of cleanroom operation. John is currently the Strategic Facilities Officer of the Birck Nanotechnology Center in Discovery Park at Purdue University, a facility that contains a 25,000 ft2 ISO 3, 4, and 5 cleanroom. He is a Fellow of the IEST, Senior Faculty and Fiscal VP of IEST, Associate Chair of SPC-7 (nanotechnology), Chair of WG 205 (Nanotechnology Safety), and Senior Editor of the Journal of the IEST. He has written one book and two book chapters in contamination control technology, two book chapters in nanotechnology-facility safety, and numerous papers in semiconductor process development, contamination control, and facility safety. He has taught a wide variety of industry short-courses, and is a recipient of the Willis J. Whitfield Award for contributions in the field of contamination control and the Monroe Seligman Award for contributions to nanotechnology facilities. He is also a member of the NIOSH National Steering Committee for Prevention through Design and a reviewer of the Nanotechnology Strategic Plan.
